I just installed a 1992 3800 engine in a 1995 Pontiac Bonneville. I 'm running into a problem with the wiring harness...more or less which one to use or am I in over my head in the wrong direction. Any help with this haywire problem would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Oh boy..

first off..please change the title to something a little snazzier like "wiring nightmare" or ..."92 trying to run off 95 wiring"

Then.. holler back and let us know what model you have. There are more differences between models than years..although you did pick a good one.

You picked a less-powerful engine, and your shift points won't be anywhere close to correct if you try to run it off the 95 PCM.

We need alot more details about what you swapped.

Oh boy. You're putting a series 1 (L27) into a car that originally had the series II (L36).

I'll let the gearheads tackle this one.

In the mean time, I'll move this to the 92-99 section for you. This is not a performance topic.

You'll have many sensors and things that exist in 95 that probably can't work on the 92 engine.. on top of that all..... your 92 engine might not even have an EGR.

Ok.. let'* talk about this systematically. Can you please take pictures and post them here so we can see what is or isn't already where we think it might work.

Thanks

I have all the motor wiring harness from the L-27(1992) engine completely hooked to engine back to the firewall. Could I use this harness and tie it the exsiting harness in someway and then change the computer? Going to take some pics !Thanks

You would need to confirm the various inputs to each cavity between 92 and 95 on that connector to make it work right, change your interior harness or cut and hack a ton... to get the old pcm in.

You will have to cut and splice. The connectors between the 92 and 95 pcm'* are very different.

You will need the factory wiring diagrams for both years to figure it all out.

You have a major mess on your hands that would be better solved by installing the correct engine.
