Default oil pump ,balancer or timing chain

something is knocking in front of the engine i have a lifter tap but when i hold the car down at bout 3000 rpms something just raises hell in the engine could this be

balancer gone bad

timing chain streatched or the tenisor wore out and slaping at high rpms

or oil pump wore out inside

on a cold start up holding it down it does not do this but when its hot and u do it it sounds like something just flying around in there its not a rod im bout 95% sure what yall think

Damn that doesn't sound good. I don't know what it could be besides a valvetrain problem, but I want to know what it is when you find out.

I just went through a similar trouble shoot situation with my car and it ended up being a bearing, but then I have the sound whenever i get it above 2500rpm. It also dosen't matter if my car is cold or hot for this to happen. I was planning on looking into the Harmonic balancer as well but I now know I'm not that lucky. I would think if the oil pump you would see it in the gauge as well.

well sorry i can't get a sound to you but i can desribe it best as posilbe

on a cold start up its you just hear a lifter click u get it hot and then u can hear the knock bout twice every 2nd it sounds like its coming form the front of the engine. u hold the engine down to 3000 rpms and u can hear the lifter and the other knock and then it just start raising hell like theres a peice of metal in there just flying around. my dad said he has never heard a rod do this. could it be the timing chain stretched and when it get hot it expands and just going crazy at 3000 rpms does the l27 motor have a timing chain tensior? the engine has no power loss during this

the oil pressure is bout 60 lbs cold start but then drops to down to just infront of the red in the guage when it gets hot could the oil pump be making this noise being wore out?

i heard the balancers will knock when they go bad on these motors could the balancer be bad

the motor has 145,000 miles i really dont think its the balancer making them sounds it sounds like its in the motor i took the belt off and did it to make sure it wasn't any of the asserarys and it wasn't the only thing it does not do anything untill u hold it at 3000 rpms i'm not saying its a rod i just dont believe it is a rod

my guess its a timing chain or a lifter my dads guess its a rod or main i changed the oil today and put some marvin mstery oil in it maybe if it is a lifter it will shut the lifter up but if it is a timing chain or a rod the only thing thats going to happen is its going to go cuase they wont get any better i dunno guys all i know is i'm husling to get my 65 truck back together so i will have something to drive if it does decide to go any suggestions ? moose

did you check for metal in the oil when you changed it? You could cut the old oil filter open and look in there too. A bad bearing could cause a loss in pressure from what I've learned.
