Default occasional starting trouble

Not sure if this is remote start related or not...

sometimes when attempting to start the car i will turn the key and all electronics will come on but the starter won't start. this happens with both remote start and manual start, so i don't think that its a bad key being that it will do it with out the key too.

so do you think i might have something bad with the remote start (unit itself or maybe bad wireing job) or is it something else?

thanks

Next time it does it, try putting your car in nuetral to see if it works then. Could be a bad/failing indicator switch for your transmission.

Does it start right up immediately on the second try?

I've done the Netural thing. the position sensor should be alright....

and yes, i've turned the key from off to crank and back again several times... even back to Acc and to crank. but if i let it sit for a bit, it usually starts right up first turn of the key. its only done this twice to me and its really just more of an annoiance then anyhting.

If it does again, please notice the security light. When it doesn't start the first time the security light is probably solidly lit. I don't remember the exact time (about 2 min) it resets and you can try to start again. That is the VATS, probably having trouble reading the resistor pellet in the key.

why would the pellet in the key be the problem if it does it even using my kep fob to start the car... as in the key isn't even in the ignition.

Good point..let me rephrase. Next time it happens please note the security light. It may be a VATS issue.

well i still haven't had the remote start looked at (that appt is on tuesday...) but it did it again today. twice...

as far as the security light goes, it stays on, no blinking, no nothing. both times, after severel on and offs with the key it started up.

does this shed some light on anyhting?

yes the VATS is disabeling the Car.....Clean your Key (the black resistor) with a rubbing alchol and try to clean the lock cylinder.....Err WAIT...you said that you have a remote start...that means the the VATS was bypassed....there might be a problem with the was the car was bypassed
