You either need to check the wiring to the MAP sensor, or your MAP sensor itself needs to be replaced.

would this make the car stop running while driving down the road(unexpectedly) when decreasing acceleration? and do yu kno where the map sensor would be located on a 1997 3800 series 2? thanks

Map sensor is going to be in the intake manifold, up top, passenger side. IIRC, it'* the only sensor on the composite intake.

The vacuum line being broken or disconnected would also cause it to read barometric.

No vac lines on the series 2 L36 Wren. It'* directly coupled to the intake manifold. Though...a leaky o-ring could do it.

Packed on top of the PCV. IIRC, those plastic tabs are prone to breaking with age. Try some zip-ties to hold it on tighter and see if it solves the problem.
