Default O2 Sensor

What exactly does it do?
Why does it affect gas mileage?
Can you tell if the engines running lean by looking at an old one?
Should i reset the PCM after installing the new one?
Thx in advance

It measures the amount of oxygen in the exhaust air to compute the A/F ratio.

Because if it fails lean, the PCM will richen the engine to no end.

Somewhat, But not reliably.
