Default Noise in rear under trunk

I have a 97 Bonneville SSEI.

I have alot of noise coming from the rear of the car. The only thing I can think is that it might be an air compressor kicking on and off (going bad because it'* loud!). It'* not a constant noise it comes and goes...it is driving me crazy!

Has anyone had this problem before and is there actually a compressor back there for the "air pump" in the trunk? If so, is it only for that pump and can it be disconnected???

THE NOISE IS THERE WHEN I AM SITTING OR MOVING AS SOON AS THE CAR IS STARTED!

Thanks for your help!

with the car off, put key to "on " position (dont' start )and listen. do you hear the noise? the pump is set to come on for a little bit. give it a minute, you also have time to run around to the right rear wheel for a better listen

Yes theres a compressor under the rear on the passenger side. Is the sound related to driving or does it make noise even when its sitting still?

You can unplug your ELC (air leveling system) by pulling the main fuse for it under the hood. Pop your hood, take the cover off the firewall behind the motor on the passenger side and you'll see a set of fuse blocks with plastic covers on them. Open the covers and pull the fuse for the ELC.

When does it make the noise?

Do you ever hear it when sitting still?

you also have an on/off switch by the trunk latch. this operates the compressor. If you don't get the noise you are hearing, look elsewhere for the cause. key has to be "on" to use the on/off also.

No, it also levels your Rear air shocks.

I have a noise to but only after I start it up and then start driving. It only does it occasionally and mines a 93. It is driving me insane.
