my rpms at 70 are exactally 3000 on level ground. I plan on pulling the pan and taking a look inside tonight to see what thats like. and of course a new filter. What u guys think about lucas additive? Just came from parts store and the guy behind the counter said his blazer wouldnt shift into od either before and he changed filter and threw some lucas in and it worked. Either he just got me to spend another 11 bucks or it might work. Remember, I'm not looking to make this my primary car, just a car to get to work and back about 24 miles one way.

Did you ever find out what the problem was? My 94 Bonneville started doing the same thing this morning. Will not shift into overdrive, 3000 rpm at 70, no more cruise control.

Thanks

Have your car checked for codes. Your car may be a default mode that disables 4th gear and cruise control.

I have the engine light on... I tried every code reader we have at work and none of them would read my 94 with what is apparently an OBDI computer with an OBD II connector.... any ideas on how to pull the code?

You need to use a good quality scanner. The code reader may not be capable to read codes an OBD I car.
