Default Nice dic!

Not really, can't print what I want to call it. 93 SSE
Does anyone know if the circuit board that drives the dic, compass, and mini-gauge cluster is available from GM? If so, please post a part number. I don't trust the junkyard, since they have what I already have - junk. I saw a previous post where simply replacing this board from a salvage unit fixed this problem. Another resoldered the connections on the board to fix theirs. The manual says to just replace the IP for this problem. My thought is that perhaps GM has pinpointed the problem with these and has a new part number available that supercedes our "broken" ones. Or perhaps a TSB?

I finally dove in and did my cluster this week after several years of watching my dic flicker . The problem has gotten intermittently worse as of recent by completely killing the compass, the dic, and the temp/oil/volt/fuel cluster. HUD/tach/spedo and dash lights still are fine. I tore into it per the guide on the site which is very good btw. I couldn't find anything wrong, so reassembled and installed a new lens . It worked fine yesterday, but today the problem reoccured with the gauges and displays going dead. No flickering yet . I shut the car off, turned the key on, was ok, started the car, and everything was still ok, but there is a slight hesitation before the displays come on - might be normal.

So far I haven't heard of anyone replacing with new lately. Not sure if they are available. Check out GMpartsdirect.com and see if you have any luck. I believe if they do have them the cost is high. Most mechanics would probably recommend swapping with another entire one in a junkyard as they don't usually disassemble these.

I just sold one for a 2003/2004 and it worked just fine and we got it from a junk yard.

I seem to have fixed mine. I took it out and found a large insect - some sort of beetle - in between two of the boards. Removed beetle. Inspected all solder connections using a large magnifying glass. Resoldered two connections that looked 'suspect'. They were not obviously "bad". Cleaned the wiring connections with electric part cleaner. Made sure all boards were snuggly attached. Reassembled. So far - about a year now, no flickering. I don't think it was the bug! Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions. I had checked gmpartsdirect, but they had nothing. I'm not a soldering expert so I didn't want to temp fate there, nor did I see anything suspicious to my untrained eye. I haven't had any flickering issues since putting it back together - the RH wiring was wedged in so tightly the connector pulled off without needing to be unclipped. Guessing they didn't allow enough slack to connect to begin with, but I got enough loose now. However, the gauges are working about half the time now. When they work-they're solid, when they don't-they're stone dead, along with the dic and compass. Looks like I'll try the salvage yard route too.
