Default Newb'* first post.

Well I got my 92 SSEI a couple days ago and about a half hour after I got it the wife took the keys and has not let go of them until this evening. So I am driving ghr car to work tonight and couldnt be happier with the way the car runs, mind you the car itself has 245750 miles on it. The previous owner had the engine, trans, and SC rebuilt but couldnt tell me at what milage, considering that my oil pressure is a constant 60 psi at idle and jumps to between 70/80 at highway speeds I have no reason to doubt him, he was the original owner of the car other than the interior being a little beat up I think a good cleaning a buffer with some compound and a steam cleaner she should clean up right nice. Anyway back to my questions, when I step on the brake I get an audible beep 3 beeps to be exact any ideas on what this might be? I know the 3rd brake light is out and am wondering if thats what it is. My second question is about steering, my wife didnt complain about it but I find the steering to be very heavy and am wondering if I might have a bad pump or maybe the rack is going, I have not had a chance to look the car over as I work thrid shift and the wife is driving the heck out of the car but this weekend plan on going through it, plugs wires air filter oil change get the basics done and give it a real good once over I need to get it up on the jack because it has an exhaust leak that is driving me nuts but overall like I said I could not be happier with my 1000 dollar purchase. Oh almost forgot I do have another 3rd question, can someone tell me what type suspension I have like I said its a 92 ssei when I had me the wife and 2 teen aged kids in the car I noticed a bit of sag and we bottomed out where we normally didnt so I know im gonna need struts in the rear just wanna make sure I get the right ones. Thanks ahead of time love the site and love the sharing of knowledge.

1. the "ding ding ding" is probably your lamp monitor. Get that bulb changed out and it will probably go away

2. How is your fluid level? What are you used to driving? The Bonneville is a performance sedan so the steering is pretty stiff.

3. The rear struts are controled by an air pump. They are ELC (Electronic Level Control) struts. Check this post for lost of handy information.

Default Thanks for the info

I kinda figured the chime was the light, I have drivin everything from vettes, camaros, mustangs turbo volvo'* and a ton of old school muscle I have run the gambit and none of them had as heavy a steering wheel as this one to me it feels heavier than it should but like I said the wife didnt complain so could just be me. As far as the suspension I am guessing the pump is in-op or the struts are leaking, didnt catch that link you referenced but I will search for it.

thanks

Whoops, sorry about that: http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/tech/elc/\

The pump is located in the engine bay behind the airbox.

Try your utility inflator in the trunk. It uses the same pump. With it on, it should produce air, and the pump under the hood should run.

You have low-speed steering assist on your car. Make sure the plug is connected (electrical) to the back of the power steering pump. It'* buried. You may have to go in through the wheelwell.

Wear latex gloves if you need to replace your 3rd brake light. Unless you like Brer bear and the tar baby.
