The only reason this thread should be edited is for the RTV discussion to be put into a new topic and made widely known. Because there is info in here that I wish I knew the last time I did this.

Update....car has been run more. No leaking so far. I will update this more later...already 45 minutes late to a date ( better than last night though...1.75 hours late...haha)

alright, some were curious about my oil being dark all the time.

here it is with 1000 miles on it. Changed and even dumped an extra quart through the motor when the plug was out to attempt to push the dirty stuff at the bottom of the pan out.

So far so good. Have about 1700 miles on the new gaskets. Currently there is no smell of coolant in the exhaust...a first in a long time. And the coolant level hasn't dropped at all since the night I refilled/bled the system.

If your engine oil gets dark quickly, this is an indication of ring blow by from a worn engine.

When the car runs good and exhaust shows no signs of smoking or failing emissions... it can also be a sign of a heavy romping foot.

Let'* also remember that this engine was full of gunk and looked horribile internally. This time opening it up, it looks much cleaner and the deposits are disappearing. Let the oil be dark.. that'* the engine cleaning itself.

Next year when you perform the ritual, I'd be surprised if the oil isn't staying cleaner since most likely the deposits will be gone.
