welp earlier I posted the is "the Bonnevile worth the cash" post and thanks for the responses, Ive decided to keep my bonnie, welp mainly because new cars are so expensive, I like not having a $400 a month payment. Anyways, I need a new paint job and I have done some research and heard good and bad things about Maaco paint jobs. Anyone here ever had a Maaco paintjob or know of someone who has. I may keep my car up to another five years til I can buy a new one in cash almost so this paint job has to last. I know I could get an expensive paint job but Id like to hear how Maaco is. Look forward to some helpful info.

hard to say i don`t know how the USA Maaco`* are for painting...my sweet wife works in a Maaco up here in God`* Country....they do a nice job ..but as it goes ..you`* get what you pay`ds for .....depending on how much $$ you drop on the paintjob

I'm sorta in the same boat as drw7172. I'm keeping my Bonne until she goes to the boneyard. So, paint/clearcoat and some minor body work will be necessary. I was told to prepare to spend anywhere between $1500 and $2G (CDN).

Does this sound right?

Here is what I have heard in general about getting cars painted:

1) You get what you pay for.
2) Make sure any and all rust is taken care of as well or the paint will degrade and chip in and around those locations.
3) Some places will just paint over existing paint as is. This isn't supposed to be the best way or doesn't always obtain the best results. It should be sanded and primered even if it is already painted (assuming your painting the whole car).

As far as Maaco goes... I have heard both good and bad. The bad is that the $150 presidentail paint service is what you get to make your car look good enough just long enough to sell it, then the paint starts to go bad. I have also heard that if you spend the money, get the primer, multiple coats of color, and clear coat that it will turn out fairly nice. It all comes down to how much $$$ you wanna spend and the reputaion of an individual shop. If you want a real good paint job just do some home work and find out which shop has the most experience and possibly some samples to show you their work.

sounds expensive. but i can get cheap paint jobs.

my friend quoted my car to be about 1 grand give or take a few hundred. but that is my friend. i guess i can say if you can make it up to Saskatoon,Saskatchewan,Canada i can help you out with a good cheap paint job there known around here for wicked custom jobs

Watch the Maaco for sales on the "best" job. I have a pickup that was repainted this way 3 years ago and it still looks like it did when I picked it up. I've seen some bad things with the cheaper jobs though.

These guys are dead on. It depends on the 'package' you choose. Also keep in mind that a metallic color will cost more and be more prone to flaws. A solid color with a good clearcoat is the safest, bare minimum I'd look for. Picking a similar or identical color is best so you don't have to worry about the insides of the door jambs, pillars, etc. Remember that we have alot of plastic on these cars. Pulling the lower panels and painting them seperately, but at the same time, then re-installing them shouldn't add much cost, but can prevent chipping and peeling at the union where they meet the door skin.

I had my bonne painted Yellow at maco in august. it looked great until it started to chip and fade and scratch easily. Then i decided to take auto body at school (that is where i did my Flames) and i learned a lot about macco. Usually they use single stage paint which requires no clear it dries shiny but isnt very durable. which is why I fixed scratches and cleared the car myself. But not many people do this stuff themselves for many reasons. so i would look into all of this at macco if you go.

Oh and one more thing Go for at least the $300 - $400 package if you go
