from what i have read (and found via search) that the steering racks in these cars tend to die by having power assist in one direction only, and that is what my 97' SSE is doing.

how many different racks were avaliable in these cars? i checked the power steering pump for any electrical sensors and i did not find any. so is it safe to assume i do not have variable assist or magnasteer?

are there any RPO codes to identify what rack the car has?

and how bad is it to replace? does the back of the cradle have to come down?

They came with either a 2 flo or 3 flo rack. I have the 2 flo in mine. I will have to check my build sheet for the RPO code. They arent to hard to replace. It makes it easier if you can drop the back of the cradle to manuever the rack out.
