Sounds like when it rains it pours for ya. Ditto on the UIM R &R if you plan to keep the car (which you should). Its a real straight foward job that can be done with basic tools. The plastic elbow is a commom part to break and again, easy to find. Too bad the chunk fell into the manifold but you should go hunting for it. Everyone here seems to like the GM gaskets for the UIM and LIM fix. If the AC compressor locks up, you will lose your new belt and be dead in the water, again. :? If you funding is short to replace the compressor, (as mine is) you can get a "compressor delete pulley". You remove the compressor and install the pulley in its place, another easy job which I just finished. While I drive an Olds 88, everyone here has been very helpful and will share their knowledge freely.

BMW, I would try and break it up, but after consulting with my uncle, a mechanic for 15 years, he said the piece was big enough it wouldnt do any damage.

57. yea, Autozone told me they didnt sell the part seperatly, so when i broke it i was kicking myself cause i figured the part would cost me 70 bucks, but it was on the help rack. As for a AC compressor, i think i ground down the clutch and hub to the point where it doesn't grind anymore, but the ac wont work, so i think its fine. i was thinking about the AC delete pully, but not sure.

You might want to disconnect the plugs to the a/c compressor just to make absolutely sure it won't engage the clutch. If it'* spinning now, when it engages, it could lock up.

It'* your engine...so do whatever you like, but why not take the time ( 1/2 hour ) tops to remove the piece :? Specially if your going to tear it down to replace the UIM and LIM gaskets. Your call. Good Luck with everything.

well, im not going to dismantle the entire thing and risk breaking other stuff, cause you know that always happens. I will take it out when i do the UIM replacement.
