I picked up my new 2002 SSEI on October 1st. I noticed some minor things they had to do but I also noticed a vibration in the tires, less at low speed, more noticable at high speed. The dealer forced balenced the tires and found two would not balance so they ordered two ne tires for me. When they came in I had them put the new ones on the back and the two original tires on the front. I dont think the vibration is as bad as it was but its far from gone. I drive at highway speeds for long distances and I still get tires bump or vibration that seems to be better or worse at times, but still pretty consistant. The dealer wants to force balance them again now that we have the two new tires on the car. Any thoughts out there??
Anybody else go through this?
Jsut as a side note, I had one 2002 SSEI already this year that was damaged by hail that I traded for the one I picked up new in October. The first SSEI I had earlier this year rode very smooth so its pretty easy for me to tell the difference between the way its supposed to be and the way this new car rides.

It may be your bearing hubs. Even some new (from the show room) Bonnevilles had problems with this.

I am have a definate vibration at lower speeds. At about 40 my whole starts to vibrate, not violently but a low viration that makes things in my rattle, like I have my bass turned up. When I apply the brakes very lightly it quites it some what. But my brakes seem to be fine and the rotors are not worped. But then when I hit close to 70 the car starts to shake, not violently, but a definate shaking.

Typically tires are unbalanced because the machines used only balance tires really up to 55mph. So at speeds lower or higher than this, there can be a small or even a larger vibration depending. Also depends on the wheels themselves if they are steelies, or lighter aftermarket wheels. Heavier wheels tend to not vibrate as much since their reasonance frequency is much higher. Lighter wheels if well made balance nicely. It'* more of probably how accuarte their balancing machine is than your tires being bad. And plus what kind of weight are they using to balance it? A clip on weight or a weight belt?

I had another dealership look at my 2002 for the tire chatter. The service tech felt the vibration and said the first dealership should have changed all four tires and the force balanced again, since they only changed two the old two tires will never follow. They also said there is a 2002 bulletin that states if the Goodyears vibrate or chatter and cannot be force balanced, they should switch the Goodyears to Micheline. I hope they are right, at 40-74 you get a vibration or chatter that comes and goes in a pattern. Not enough to drive you off the road, just enough to drive me crazy, especially when the payment shows up.
I hope the Michelen tires are as good or better than Goodyear???? Thoughts??
They dealership says they will be the exact same size as OEM.

Michelin makes a good product, just make sure that they give you a comparable tire--not only in size, but also in speed rating.

I have a 2001 SSEi. It does the same thing. The dealer has force balanced twice and replaced three tires. Still shakes. Sometimes there, sometimes not. Sometimes more noticable, other times barely noticable.

The new Michelin tires and the force balance really helped. They gave me four new tires and forced balanced all of them, so far they are nice. I am traveling on Tuesday and will have it up to highway speeds for several hours, that will be the real test. Right now with the new Michelins it rides every bit as good and maybe a little better than my brothers new 2002 Olds Aurora he picked up this month.
