Default Neutral Saftey Switch

My car wont shift out of park sometimes. Only after punching the side of the center console and smacking the shifter does it want to come out of park... Whats the dealio?

there is a cable that connects the shifter linkage to the saftey switch (for center console mounter shifters) this cable stretches and moves out of place. There are 2 screws at the bottom of the ash tray that needs to be removed along with the shifter head. there is a C clip at the back of the shifter facing the radio. After you remove that you will be able to lift up the entire console and get acces to the cable.

not a neeutral switch it'* called a brake shift interlock solinoid. just disconect it and you won't have to worry about it. My self and 2 other ya hoos designed it for the car companies years ago.
