I have some antifreeze leaking near the throtle body on the intake is this normal?

Hope it'* coming from the TB, not the upper intake seal. Sounds like a prime opportunity to clean the TB, too

Not a COMMON problem, but on a 93? Sure. Over 10 years old. Should be a 2 hour job including cleaning the TB. You'll not regret doing that. Use a couple cans of intake safe cleaner, not carb cleaner. And remove your MAF screen first.

You may want to put some break-free or penetrating oil on the BACK side of the intake neck anchors for the 3 TB studs about an hour before removing it (or a day or two in a row if you can). If those anchors spin in the plastic intake, you'll play hell trying to get the TB loose. Put some on the nut/stud union on the front, too.

I second what Will said -- the anchors are a royal bitch to deal with if they spin loose in the intake. Thank god I had a right angle die grinder and just cut off the anchor, otherwise I would have been screwed.

willwren,

Just curious. I've seen mention before about not using carburator cleaner and was just wondering why it would be any worse for a throttle body than a carb. I've used it for years on carbs and in recent years on throttle bodies and have noticed no ill effects.

Are you concerned about human safety or are there other aspects unique to throttle bodies that I should be aware of?

Carb Cleaner kills sensors

I did it in about an hour now counting soaking, It'* pretty easy, But that Exhaust Heat Sheild sux.

I also pulled all the sensors out of the TB and soaked it overnight, The 1/8th inch of Black came right off.

While you have the TB off pull all the crap out of the Upper intake that you can, It builds up it there too.

Residue from carb cleaner can actually migrate downstream and even kill your O2 sensor. Not to mention the MAF sensor, but you should remove that anyway.
