My 98 Bonneville Is Dead!!! Please HELP!!!
- Can that small chip in the key really affect the start up of a car...I realize what the chip is for, but is it really that critical?
Yes, it is. It'* a theft-deterrent device. Without the proper key, you're not going anywhere. Try another key if you have one, and clean the contacts in the ignition switch and on the keys with alcohol and a q-tip.
- What and where is a ICM?
Ignition Control Module. Underneath your Ignition coils. Flat box with the wide rectangular connector. Located on the forward accessory bracket, above the AC compressor.
Don't hesitate to disconnect your battery. Plenty of folks can take care of the Theftlock stereo'* here, as can the dealer. If it'* even enabled to begin with.

I called my local repair shop today, described the problem(*) I am having, the claim it is more than likely the upper intake...noted the fact that I am low on coolant and said that the upper intake is leaking causing the injectors to be clogged and burning off the coolant out the exhaust. Not sure if this is the problem, but the car is going on the trailer tonight and heading to the shop. I looked the engine over and decided that I did not want to take this on. I have done my share of major engine reoairs in the past, but this is way to involved for me, not to mention the possibility of having other issues afterwards. Sounds like it'* gonna run about $500
Shop said they just did another Bonne last week with the same problem.

Ai yi yi! I thought it might be that, the symptoms you described were just like the problems I had before mine went.
If it is the upper intake make sure to change your oil, and replace spark plugs and wires after the repair, they'll need it.

But if you can actually get it done for $500, that ain't bad. I thought that repair cost a whole lot more.
