Pay specific attention to the block end of the negative cable. Remove it, clean the mounting location with a wire brush, and re-install it.

You're RIGHT!
VATS only affects the actual "Start Up" of the vehicle, not the running of the vehicle.

If VATS only works on start up, why does my old key start it fine and then quit in the middle of traffic, but if I use my new keys everthing is great??

Ken, I'm curious about this. Is there a common amount of time? Or is it random? (before it quits)??

Default Wow...what a response in just 24 hours after post...

Wow...what a response in just 24 hours after post...thanks to all.
Just have a few questions though:

- Can that small chip in the key really affect the start up of a car...I realize what the chip is for, but is it really that critical?

- What and where is a ICM?

- About the battery cables....really do not want to disconnect them until I know for sure...can't that reset a bunch of other crap like the factory stereo lock and possibly more?...Gotta love technology! Had that happen in my GrandAm a few years ago.

Any more advice would be great...shop is closed for the next few days, but I have to have this car running in about 5 more days...gonna go try the thing with the key first...then the battery cables, although they appear clean...One of the first things I checked.

By the way great forum! And a special thanks to DeathRat for acknowledging my other post!

Do a Google search for GM VATS or Passkey II, you'll find more information on that little black chip than you'll know what to do with! And yes, it'* that important. If the resistance of that pellet isn't right, it sets of te cars internal security. It either won't start, or it woun't stay running for long.
