My 1998 owner'* manual lists the fuel capacity as 18.0 and 18.5 gallons (in two different places). Anyone know what is actually true :?:

And how much gas is left in the tank, when the needle reaches the "orange zone" and the "check guages" light pops on? On my old '96 Dodge Avenger, the manual specified that 2.9 gallons remained when the low fuel indicator came on. Knowing that I could always estimate how many miles I had left before I needed to fill up... but I'm not sure with the Bonny, and I really don't want to find out by running the tank dry!

Supposed to be 18 gallon tanks on the 92-99'*, but with filler neck and all you can get 19+.

And, try not to get to the orange zone. There'* not enough gas left to trust the pickup to reach it (only a couple of gallons. Sorry, I don't know the exact number, but I've seen the warning )

From my experience, every time I fill up right after the needle hits the orange zone and the Check Gages lamp comes on (assuming I've been driving steadily and on a level surface), I fill up with 15 gallons, meaning that there are roughly 3 gallons left in the tank when the chime goes off. I've been doing this for the past year and a half and it seems to be fairly consistent.

Also, if you drive a little vigorously, you could cause the chime to go off a little earlier than normal, so it may chime when there are still 4-5 gallons left. If you turn off the car and start it again, you'll notice that the chime will go away. However, even with the needle fairly deep into the orange, I've still been able to drive pretty vigorously and on decently steep downward inclines with no trouble. I am not recommending that you do this since your fuel pickup may be in a slightly different location, and besides, just for safety sake, don't be a dummy like me and nearly run your tank nearly dry every time. You don't want condensation to get into the tank anyway.

Hehe, thanks jr ... I'll try not to be TOO much of a cheapskate, waiting to fill up until the last possible moment. I usually try to catch our local gas price pattern on the DOWNside before putting out the ca$h for a fill-up.
