Default Monroe struts

I inquired at my local Napa about Monroe shocks. They said they no longer have the Reflex, just Sensatrac and Response. And that they were told the Reflex was just a Sensatrac with a different sticker.

What'* the truth in that?

Napa has been calling the Reflex and Sensatrak the same thing for 2 years because Monroe won't license them to stock the Reflex. So when people come in looking for the Reflex, they steer them one step down. The Sensatrak is still better than stock, but the Reflex valve response time is 100 times faster than that Sensatrak.

The sensatrak and most conventional struts use overlapping groove valves, so the strut has to compress to a certain point before responding. The Reflex uses a shock sensor, then opens an automotive type valve immediately. The difference in launches for us would be the most obvious. No rear-end squat in comparison to old valving styles.

So where might I find some Reflexes?

Finding Reflexes might be a little hard. I replaced all of my struts earlier this year and EVERYWHERE I checked, they could no longer get the Reflexes. I opted for Sensatrac'* all the way around. Monroe still lists a valid Reflex number on their site, but everyone is showing the Sensatrac as the substitute. Advance'* site even listed the Reflex number, but with a note to use to depletion then substitute the Reflex.

I just got all four new Sensatracs on mine with the endlink kit. It made a big difference, even though after 165k miles my original struts were most likely shot anyways. Definately happy in the choice.

Wasn't Kennginn selling some here a couple weeks ago? They were the last set available supposedly.

I know O'Reilly stocks the Sensa-traks for about $65-$70 a piece. Just inquired about 'em today.

They list the Sensa-Trak as a replacement for the Reflex. They are not the same.

That said, this is old. Let it lie where it was.
