Question Mis-fire, Shutter, Shake, No-Rev, etc...

As I stated in my Title... the problems consist of mis-fire, shutter, shake, and or lack of reving properly... She revs but not well and drives, but not worth the waste in gas to do so

Now what im working on is a 94 SSEI, supercharged glory... my first FI car and im just LOVING it... haha not really... I know that the check engine light is on but I havent checked the code yet, will get accomplished tomorrow, but i need to kno anyone has any input.
When you get in and start her up she fires up and idles intermittently at 1000 rpms... I say intermittently because it cycles up and down and loaps like its got a good size cam in it... lol a friend at first thought it was a drag car, but it holds idle... If you rev it up gently it goes all the way to 5500 without hesitation, sometimes a lil kick at 3000 but still climbs, now if you gas it and hold it at WOT the whole car shakes like its firing on 3 cyls. Mind you its boosting, has new plugs, wires, oil, fuel filter, MAF sensor, Coil packs, stress tested the Ignition module and it passed with flying colors, now im thinking the problem is a sensor (cam, crank, etc) or in the motor itself.

If you want to kno the background on the car, she was a freebee from my father...Been in his possession since 96 and he parked it for 3 years cuz of the EGR valve... pause for laughter... I kno, but after 3 mechanics in Tulsa, OK and his own work on it the conclusion to it was not running right was due to the supercharger, so he replaced it, plugs, wires, pulleys, belts, and fluids... still didnt run right so he parked it... til i took it off his hands... After 3 yrs of Tulsa winters i re-replaced the wires, plugs, fluids, EGR valve, and things of that nature to get her back up and running. Quite well aftually minus the charger quit boosting.
Now I have fixed the blowoff valve silonoid (spelled wrong i kno, i think), and got boost back, YAY! but then less than a week later I got a major problem... The MAF sensor died... and i mean died... completely quit working so performance and fuel efficiency went bye-bye. Then after fixing that the fuel filter got clogged... this of course caused a problem with revving up, but was fixed easily. Now im onto the problem at hand... Seems like any time i fix something, another something goes ary...

Now im left with thinking im going to have to tear into the motor so i need some suggestions on what to look for. if there are any questions, email me at [email protected] or reply... im open to anything because im stuck on where to look for a fix.

Sorry for the long story but i want all the facts and info laid out so theres fewer questions.

What your describing sounds a lot like a problem I had about a year ago. Rough idle, sounded like it had a big CAM, I threw several codes such as misfire, lean, things like that. I first thought vac leak. I checked all lines and found nothing. I finally found it when I had my head near the EGR valve. I had a cracked EGR tube. So I say check that as well as all your vac lines. If you find nothing, then we will need those codes.

One other thing, after being parked for a while the fuel may have gone bad. I suggest getting a can of seafoam and putting that in the fuel tank. That should clean up any water in the fuel, help with the filter, and clean up the injectors.

Its been several months since its been sitting, and it WAS driving fine last week, plus the replacement egr valve is less than a year old... not ruling it out as it could have cracked due to fast change in temp... cold outside and it heating up while running but i dont think thats it... could be wrong tho and ive replaced the lines recently and re-checked them when i put the new plugs in 3 days ago
thanks for the suggestion tho

BTW, does anyone have a diagram for the vacuum line hoses comming off the blowoff valve for the series 1 supercharged 3.8L in a 94??? ive looked and cant find it... prolly just not looking in the right place... not that it has anything to do with the problem i just want to make sure the lines are going to the right place and i think 1 line is missing because the new blowoff valve solenoid came with a filter on it and since there wasnt a hose or anything on the other i thought that might be why it went bad was lack of a filter, but just to be sure... i left the filter on it cuz it sucks in and i want it to remain clean but i just need to see a diagram to be for certain, ya kno... paranoia... trying to fix the problems not cause re-occurring ones lol

I want you to check the EGR tube. There have been a few members that have them crack near the manifold. The crank sensor could be the problem. They can cause odd problems at times.

I've never had to change one so I can't say for sure. There are others here that have done it so we'll have to wait for them to chime in.

Here are some of those pics that you requested. Sunny day in Vanc. WA. hope they help. I will also send them to the edress listed if they didn't go through. Changing the crank sensor is not real difficult but more complicated than changing a spark plug. I can send you the details just let me know. These pics are from a 92 SSEi which is the same I believe.

Unhappy Slightly Narrowed Down

Not the EGR Tube ... went over both tubes (top side and bottom) with a toothbrush, fine comb, mirror, flashlight, and 1 rubber ducky (to squeeze should I get aggravated)... and no scratches, cracks, blemishes, or anything noticeable on the tube, brackets, or the manifold that I could see.
Still on the wait for my friends code reader, he said prolly wont be able to check it til Monday so im at a stall but still in the works... thanks for all the suggestions and help i really appreciate it you guys
anywho... will reply once i get the codes to continue on my quest for a better running SSEi lol

PS: Thanks for the picture postings 392Bonnies, it helped make sure the hoses are all ran to the correct places
