Default map lights stay on all the time

I have a 1997 Pontiac Bonneville sle and the map lights in the front and back stay on all the time. Now I have the bulbs so the battery doesn't die. If anyone knows a solution I would appreciate the help thanks.

The courtesy lights in the door still work like they should.

Pretty much points to a door switch not working.

OK even though all the other lights work right? When I pull the handle with the door locked the courtesy lights in the door and under the dash by the feet come on and work properly. The don't stay on at all. I figured it wasn't a door switch cause of that but I give it a look.

OK so there'* a different switch for the map lights and the door lights. Are they both in the door? Which switch should I be looking at and where is it located? Thanks

When you say map lights. You are talking only the ones in the front map area. Not the ones on teh rear door overhead handle area, not the ones in the doors and not the footwell lighting.

I'd say your map light switch is bad.

The lights in front by the fog light switch and sunroof switch and the rear door overhead handle they are all map lights on the same circuit. They all stay on all the time. So where is this map light switch your not talking about the ones you press in to make the light come on are you? These dam lights are confusing me tried to look at a wiring diagram it was like trying to read a different language.

The lights in the doors and the footwell lighting works fine.

Default sounds like a stuck Map Light Gremlin,

i have heard they hide in the door panels just behind the speaker and wait till you close the door then they jump out and mess with all your stuff !

a Cat should be able to catch the little buggers

on another note.....

do you know what fuse number this particular lamp that offends is drawing its electrons from ?

that would help me help you.

if you dont know... pull one fuse at a time till it ceases its foul function, then look on the legend and record the offending lamps fuse number...

relay this information to the crowd of onlookers prepared to assist and I am sure such answers will arrive in great enough numbers that your misery shall be avenged.
