I would like to install a lower temp thermostat to correct engine temps that go up to 220-225 in stop-go driving. Stock on L67Series1 is 195degrees. Will 180degree thermo hurt anything?
Would like to hear if anyone has done this.

i haven't done it yet but there are plenty of threads on here i believe and from what i understand it doesn't hurt anything.

I would suggest 180. In my experience, though, it doesn't help much with stop and go city type driving if it is warm outside. When it'* cold out, it sits at what ever temp the thermo is. For some others, it seems that their engine always sits at the thermo temp.

You should have no issues using a 180*f thermostat. The fact your car is over heating in slow traffic is a concern. When was the last time the coolant was serviced, rad flush etc?

I have always found it interesting that my temp guage always sits just below 200 with the stock 195 thermo.

I wish mine didn't budge from my 160. It runs so well there.

Yep, mine too. And FWIW, my stock 400ci V-8 (also with a 195 T-stat) in my 1969 Executive runs consistently between 205-215 depending on exterior temperature. I've been told those temperatures are perfectly acceptable/normal, so I'm not inclined to change anything out.

yeah mine doesnt budge with the stock either.
