Default low fuel warning light

I have been having problems with the low fuel warning light coming on whenever it feels like it. It doesn't come on and stay on it just flashes like there is a loose connection some where. It gets really annoying because the warning sound goes off as well. Also My car has HUD and the warning light only flashes on the HUD not in the dash. I have never seen the light in the dash come on even when the car is accually low on fuel. I have pulled the dash appart to see if there were bad connections to the guage cluster, but I didn't find anything. Annyone with this problem or an idea where to go from here. Thanx in advance!!!

could it be in the sending unit? The fuel guage appears to function normally.

If the fuel gauge is ok, forget the sending unit. I'd be removing the instrument panel and cleaning connections, while paying close attention to the connections at that particular lamp location.

Instructions for removal and cleaning are in Techinfo. Link at the top of the page.

Do the cars with HUD have the warning light in the dash as well as the HUD?

Both. If your HUD warning doesn't come on, but the cluster light does, it'* an electrical problem (short) in the cluster. Very likely corrosion at the connector(*) or at the lamp socket itself.

You have a short in the HUD connector or assembly. Probably moisture.
