loss of power

Hi guys, please help.I have a 94 series 1 and the car runs very rough when cold it surges ahead. It feels like the engine dies but it does not. In park I can rev the car to 4000 rpm and it will cut out and drop to 2000 even after the engine is warm. Just put new plugs and o2, pcv
valve and air filter but did not help. It feels like it is running out of fuel. it does get a little bertter after it warms up but not the 4000 drop. Please help.

Get a fuel pressure guage on it. Sounds like a weak (dying) fuel pump.

You mention plugs and air filter, but if the car seems to not be getting gas....how about the fuel filter?

I'd try a fuel filter before the pump. Or bad gas?

The cutout at 4000 rpm is the factory neutral rev limit. It'll do that healthy or not.

I have a 98se and I recently changed the plugs, wires, pcv pipe, air and FUEL filter, as well as cleaned out the throttle body and sea foamed thanks to this link http://www.geocities.com/rivierareso...ecleaning.html for the courage. Before all of this I had a noticable amount of hesitation on turns from a stop. I did all this at once so I'm not sure which one it was but it totally fixed this problem. Runs like a champ now. Before it ran like a 7 year old car. I'm sure it was the fuel filter in my case considering I got blue in the face trying to blow through it after I finally got it off.

At least try the Fuel filter before you go any further.

Okay I tried the fuel filter but the car still surges when cold, Maybe it is just old with 350 000 km on it. It seems to run okay hot. Any more idears would be great guys, please and thanks.

It's not just old. There's something causing it.

What diagnositc equipment do you have access to?
Are there any codes in the computer?
Can you describe the symptoms in a little more detail or get a vid of it?

The car starts nice, idle great. Put it in gear and it runs rough very slugish and you have to lift your foot off the gas because it feels like there is no power and it is going to flood the engine. Surges ahead till it gets hot all along it feels like it has no power.
