Bright / Dim switch replacement
I have a 1992 Bonneville SE, and the switch on the column (turn sig, cruise) with the Bright and Dim selector stopped working a little plastic piece cam off about 1" long by 1/4" wide with a hole running though one side came out, I see absolutely no way to put this back in to get it to work. I can manually push a rod going into the column to switch the lights from bright to dim, but cant use the control switch itself, its very loose. It looks to be kinda time consuming to take off the steering wheel and column, Does anyone know how that piece goes back...and if I have to take the whole column apart? Also has anyone had this fixed at a shop and how much $$$. Thanks everyone

I think that piece is broken off the switch. It will moslt likely need to be replaced. I don't know the cost to have it repaired but it is a bit of a job. You need to disable the airbag (let it sit for at least :30 to drain retained power). You need a steering wheel puller to get the wheel off and a special tool to remove the retaining plate under the wheel. It can be removed with a couple of screw drivers and about 4 hands but the tool makes the job much faster and less agrivating (one could be fabricated quite easily). Once past that, as I recall you can get to the switch but you need to drop (not remove) the column so you can fish the wires through the duct or conduit for lack of a better word, down the column.
