a little key help!!
bought my 99 SE and it had only one door and ignition key. I had the door key copied at walmart, no problem there. I know the keys have a resistor in them, so i bought one off of ebay that had the same resistance as the original key. Key arrived and i verifiied the resistance was the same as the original key. Had the key cut, and it won't turn the ignition!!! When i put it in the ignition, the door chime chimes (cause the door is open), and it turns off the interior lights, just like the original, it just wont turn the lock. Am I missing something here??
The theft light does not illuminate either, will a failure to read the proper resistance prevent the lock from turning, or just prevent the car from starting? I had thought that any key cut correctly would at least cycle the lock cylinder but maybe i'm wrong there. What do you guys think?

You need to get one from the dealer. These are special VATS systems so that people can't just take your keys and copy them or just pick the lock cylinder and start the car. The keys are expensive, but you must get them from the dealer.

I have the correct VATS key, with the 92-99 keys, its only a matter of matching the correct resistance in the resistor embedded in the key, it does not use the newer style RFID keys or whatnot. I had Walmart cut the key though, maybe thats the problem.....
