Key-less entry remote dead?

My key-less entry remote does not work very well. Sometimes the unlock button works. The lock and trunk buttons do not work. I did reprogram the remote from the information I found on this site, but that did not help. I recently replaced the remote batteries.
My question: Is it probable that my remote is dead and will need to be replaced? Could it be a problem with the receiver in the car?
BTW, it is a 1993 Bonneville.

Take it apart and clean it thoroughly. Sounds a bit gummy or dirty to me, if one function works and others don't.
Is that still true after reprogramming? The reprogramming functions may need whatever button didn't work.
If you buy another remote, be certain the 8-digit part number AND the FCC ID on the back match.

My Lock and Trunk work great, but Unlock only sometimes. One thing that helps most of the time is if I first Lock and then Unlock very quickly. To me, Unlock (and Trunk) are very important.
My old remote that came with the car we just bought, wasn't working. It would work at times, and other times it didn't, and at times it would lock the doors even if I hit the unlock button.
Mine was also cracked, and had a small piece of plastic that was missing. I opened it up to clean it, and noticed the clip that holds the battery was broken, and unsoldered in one spot. My brother'* old remote is like that on the inside as well.
I bid on a set of 2 remotes, brand new, on e-bay, and won the bid for 50 bucks. More than I wanted to pay, but much cheaper than a dealer wants for one, and I got 2.
The problem with buying remotes that way is, many times they need to be reprogrammed, and that can cost time and money. I browsed the Techinfo section here, and the quick easy instructions got my new remotes programmed in less than 3 minutes after I opened the door. I figured this would be a good opportunity to thank everyone here for the techinfo. It saved me time, money, and aggravation...
I think when one of the old remotes gets problems, we should replace them. On my brother'* old 96 SE, his alarm goes on sometimes when he'* in the car, and doing nothing. Sometimes it goes on when he tries to start the car. I think he needs to replace that old remote with one that can actually disable his alarm, and unlock doors.
Another thing.. on e-bay, I did a search for the 8 digit number, but came up with a few that were 69 bucks for one remote, and some used ones. For those doing a search on e-bay for a specific number...do the basic search, and after that page loads, there is an option to search title and description. click that, and then you'll get more remotes. Many folks listing them on e-bay give all the numbers in the listing, but none in the title.
Thanks again BC forum members.. Sam.......
