It was this past thuresday wene i was headed to work, i stoped at an intersection near my house, when the light turned green, i steped on the accleorator, and it was like my car was in neutral, i thought to my self "oh no i burned out the first gear towing a trailor" so i tried to accelorate to get it to shift into second, nothing.......then i pulled of the main road into a subdivision, and tried to put it in reverse.....nothing.......AHHHH, i thought there gose 2000 bucks......but i got out of the car and to my suprise, a trail of tansfliud as far as the eye could see........ so i looked under the car and there it was flexible line had come off of the solid metal line it was attached to, grrrrrr. so i called my sister, and she brought me tools and 7 quarts of Dextron III w/ mercon.........i crawled under the car, and reattached the line, and poured in the fluid until it was in good on the dipstick, started the car up and i had my presious trasmission back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

now my question.......If i ran my tansmisson and torque conveter dry for about 30sec to 1 min, what damage, if any did i do to in inerdes of the tranny??????????

At this point it has been done, you ran it semi dry. Make sure you have the problem fixed and just pay attention to how it runs and shifts.

Can't say it is good to run it dry, but it was a short period of time and it sounds like you got lucky w/o any damage.

Actually I look at his problem as good. With a few tools and a couple gallons of fluid he was back up and running.

It seems that no permanent damage was done. Best thing to do is drive it and look for any signs or oddities in it. If after a couple weeks there are no problems, most likely it'* fine.

cool, yeah i was driving it today all day, and i put about 100 miles on it..(town miles) not highway, and its shifting just fine, no shudder, hard shifts, or lack of shifting, man did i get luck.........what im suprised about is there was no warnigng no idiot lights, saying "HELLO NICK YOU IDIOT YOUR OUT OF FLUID" the only roasting i smelled was the tranny fluid on the exahust manifold.......ill keep an eye on it for the next couple weekes, thanks guys...

I agree. I've always felt that it is dumb that they would put all kinds of sensors on the car, but skip out on one of the most critical one, low transmission fluid, which can very easily kill your transmission.

I drove on low fluid for about 500ft, then I just gave up. Let'* just hope I am as lucky as you. I'm doing all this work, and putting all this money into a car that may need a new transmission.

Crap, I hope that doesn't happen here. I just got the 1990 SSE back from getting the new/lower mileage engine/tranny put in it, and after driving into town (10 miles) from the shop I pulled in the driveway and find coolant dripping out of the radiator. Then, my brother backed it out of the driveway and I noticed a big puddle and a trail.... of new tranny fluid -damnit, that pan gasket and filter were just replaced 10 miles back. I haven't had the oppertunity to go to my brothers where the car is, and look the mechanicals over. I hope to tonight. I'm guessing the tranny line wasn't clamped tight when the motor was installed or the line is bad (it'* been replaced before I can tell, because I don't think the tranny line was bright green from the factory).

BTW, the tranny line blew on my moms 1993 L67 Park Avenue about 1 month ago. She'* put almost 1,000 miles on it since and no problems yet.
