Lost reverse
my daughter was driving on the freeway and traffic was at a stop. when she went to change lanes, she stepped on the gas and the car jerked like she had gunned it. then the car wouldn't go past third. it shifts from 2nd to 3rd, but there'* no reverse. you can't feel the shift when you put it in reverse- it'* like it'* in neutral. it makes a noise kinda like a playing card in bicycle spokes when you step on the gas in drive. fluid is fine, and linkage is moving normally. been running just fine before this. any help would be appreciated.

I found this on another site and sounds like my problem
4T60E transmission
My wife has a 95 buick with a 4T60E tranny and it all of a sudden lost reverse and makes noise in the forward gears and wont get over about 35 mph. does anyone no what can cause this. I have no experience with transaxles.
2. 4t60e
The reverse reaction shell has failed. There is an updated shell available. This will cause a no reverse and no upshift condition. This will require removal and rebuild, of the trans.

This is true as the Reverse reaction wears out.... When this happens it actually wears holed in the teeth of the reverse reaction drum, in this case the trans will pretty much free wheel...
When I rebuild My 4T60-E'* I will install the Hardened( More Heavy Duty as well ) reverse reaction drum... Among several other parts...
Parts for a Tranny rebuild will most likely be in the $300 - $500 range and the total for the rebuild with parts will be in the $1500-$2300 neighborhood...

I have that exact kit sitting right here.. It is a pretty full on kit...
I have not had a chance to rebuild the Transports 4T60-E as of yet tho.... I will order another kit from that very seller and use it on my 1995 Bonneville 4T60-E as well tho..
The Only things I bought after the kit was the 4T60Ejr Shift Improver kit/Shift Kit.... Also went ahead and got the Heavy Duty Reverse Reaction Drum, and a new 4th Input shaft as the Teeth wear out on the shaft.... Once taken apart you'll see the wear on both sides of the 4th input..
I also ordered the Solenoid kit for it as well..
I bought the Shift Kit, rebuild kit and reverse reaction from Ebay..
The 4th input and the solenoid kit were from Trans Parts USA iirc..
I'll bet I have about $300-$330 tied up in parts alone .... But I have to get a new Torque converter as well
