Brights Switch
The switch that controls the brights on my car is broken, its the lever that has almost everything on it to the left of the wheel. All the other controls work except for the bottom part that you push/pull towards and away from you to trigger the lights. I know the switch is the problem, my dad banged his knee on it getting out of the car and it hasnt worked since. Has anyone fixed this before? Do I need to replace the whole thing or can I just replace the bottom? What is the p/n that I need?

M'kay, the switch is about halfway down the steering shaft, with the dimmer rod going up to the control rod. If the control rod got hit and you can't control the high/low switch i can only assume the control arm base is broken. We'll need to get someone in here with a 97 FSM.
From what I see in my books, I bet you need; Dimmer actuator, 7827028, That the little peice that hits the rod... The little peice that hits that is Wiper Switch, 26037733. The dimmer rod is w/o console 7839299, w/console 26023896. If you look at it and it'* acually the dimmer switch, that'* 10467409.

Dude there'* about 400 steps to do this... Jsut basically start pulling stuff off til you get to it... I would highly recommend a service manual.
And 10467409 is dimmer switch for all 96-99, 26005936 is the same thing for 92-95 w/console, 10499721 w/o console.

If this helps:
When I move the arm back and forth, which would normally trigger the lights, there is no resistance on it. Usually you get a click or something.

I just got done replacing the dimmer switch rod actuator, you dont really have to rip apart the column, I did, it made it a little easier, but I dont think you need to, Most of the work can be done from the side acess panel. First make sure the rod is connected down below, under the hush panel there is a rod that slides into a box, thats the switch that turns the highs on. Make sure the rod is in the box, if it is, most probally you need a new dimmer switch rod actuator, or it fell out of place and needs to be re-aligned. On my car I bought it with it missing, the only thing I didnt check was the highbeams, and of course they didnt work. Hope this helps, if you need more info let me know, finally got working highbeams now and can pass inspection!!
