Default I think im screwed

So today i was last week i was late for my senior breakfast, so i quick started the car and put it into reverse right away. When i got in the street i COMPLETELY stopped, because i have been having tranny issues. Well i go to speed away and the car goes no where!! I had to rev it up to 3500 and hold it there for a sec for it to go into gear. As soon as i felt it start to grab i let off and it didnt jerk at all, but still thats a serious problem. Any ideas on what it could be thats wrong..because i kinda wanna get that fixed before the whole unit goes out. thanks, Blake

So you are saying that your tranny didn't engage right away? Did you try it in other gears to see if they catch i.e. 3,2,1?

No i never did...and the problem hasnt been that bad since that day, however, whenever i brake significantly, then get back on quick...ie rolling through a stop sign...it'll slip alittle...also under WOT the shift from 1-2 wants to go..then it revs higher and shifts late...I have the check engine light on so i might run downtown somewhere and get a quick scan done.
