I currently own a 98 Bonneville SE, which I am having another engine put into it, because of the famed Intake Manifold problem. I have longed to make this SE into a SSEi. I've asked about it in previous posts, and I know what is entailed. The reason for this post is because I have stumbled upon a 92 SSEi which hasn't run for a year because of a supercharger problem. I have the unique opportunity to pick this car up for $400.00. What I want to do is get this car and start stripping it down. Using the front bumper and the rear bumper and side moldings for my 98. My car is currently the Bonneville with the automatic on the colum. Is this a good deal? Am I getting in over my head? Right now, I am into the 98 SE for $900 so far, and I am going to add another $600 for the engine swap pretty soon. What do you think?

the mounting technology from the 92 to the 98 body cladding is different. We do have 1 guy who did a bench/column conversion to bucket/floor. Finding an SSEi and fixing it would be easier and more economical I believe.

So you want to swap the 92 engine in to the 98 body, and put the 92 cladding on the 98 body as well?

You wouldn't be able to simply use your 98 transmission on the 92 engine, so if that'* what you had in mind you'd have to use the 92'* trans instead. But then you'd still have issues.

You also will have some issues with the door cladding. The mounting clips are not the same on the 98 SE as the 92 SSEi.

The SSEi actually looks very bad. I mean very bad. How bad is a supercharger bearing problem compared to the failed intake manifolds of the regular 3800'*?

The UIM problem on the L36 motor is much more of a problem than SC bearings going bad. If you change your SC oil as you should I don't think you'll ever have to worry much about the bearings crapping out. I certainly wouldn't worry about it as much as I would worry about owning an L36.

I guess I found this one too late. I really want a SSEi. I hate that I didn't find this one first. This SSEi is really bad shape interior wise. That much I am not so much worried about. The reason this has been sitting for so long is the lady got a quote of $900 to fix the supercharger, and she never did. Also, the supercharger is not on the engine. I would need to get another supercharger. Would I be spending more money on getting this one back up and running? Or should I run away quickly from it?

IF (and I stress IF) the supercharger is the only problem, you can get one off ebay for about $100 used. Do NOT buy a rebuilt supercharger off ebay without showing us the auction link FIRST. There are some very bad rebuilders out there.

Tomorrow I am going to take some pics, and show the current state the car is in. I would like to get some opinions if this something I should go ahead with.

Pics won't help us determine the mechanical state of the car for the most part. I suppose it'* a starting point.

To do a swap in a 98 with an L67 drivetrain..I would want to use a 97+ drivetrain.

The 92 Ei while being a supercharged engine..is the slowest of supercharged engines that was offered in the Bonneville.
