I have a 1994 SLE. Basicly half SE and half SSE. Same engine. Stock hp is 170.
First of all start with standard maintenance like fresh oil, trans flush,
To get 200 hp I'd say go with the following parts (cheapest, and easiest)

1. 180* t-stat
2. Cold air intake (even a K&N replacement filter)
3. better spark plugs (I run NGK V-powers, but there is better)
4. 8mm or bigger spark plug wires (Taylor'*, MSD'*, Magnecore'*, etc...)
5. 2.5" exhaust (even a better muffler like a Dynomax, Borla, Magnaflow, Flowmaster etc...)
6. remove the MAF screen from the TB (more air flow, but less filtering -do at your own discreetion)
7. Run 91+ octane Premium gas

I know this isn't all you can do and maybe there are a few more easy things, but I can't think of them right now -if someone else can think of something fill it in. I myself am interested to know what all I should do.
So far I have the following:

180* stainless steel t-stat
Cold air intake with 6" cone filter
NGK V-power plugs
8.8mm spark plug wires
removed MAF screen from TB
run 91-93 octane fuel (I ran 87 octane once and found considerably less response and power)
Magnaflow Wide Open muffler 3" inlet with dual 2.5" outlets (needs installation)

With the above mods I would say a modest # for my hp would probably be around 190-200 without the muffler and once the 2.5" high flow cat, 2.5" mandrel bent piping and the Magnaflow muffler are all put in I'd hope to be in the 210-220 range (all the current mods working with the new exhaust will provide even more power than just the exhaust alone). I am also working on getting a superchip from a former Bonneville owner. With that another 15 hp is very realistic.

Hope this helps,
Stylez

Getting to 200hp without something expensive may be hard...but I'm here to help.

Start simple, wires (MSD or Taylor), plugs (NGK V-Power or anything copper), intake (ADTR, get Aluminum), coils (MSD or Jacobs), exhaust (custom with dynomax or flowmaster muffler), and then SPEND HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS ON NITROUS, CHIP, WOMEN IN THE BACK SEAT, AND.....oh crap....nevermind.

Anyway, let me know where you wanna start and we can talk. Oh also, get a 180 thermostat for 10 bucks.
