How do I know if UIM has been replaced and manufacturer?
Hi, I have been lurking for awhile now and have read on the site about the dates on the UIM. I have a 1998 SE with 45,000. I have had it since Oct 05 and bought from the original owner. However, I didn't ask him about the UIM. I took the engine cover off and the two "dials" on the UIM point to "9" and "04". I assume this means when they were made?? Also I went to O' Reilly'* to look at the Dorman UIM and the one they had there also had 9 and 04 on this piece. Is it reasonbe to assume that my intake is a Dorman? Any advice on this would be VERY helpful!! Thanks everyone!! Chad
As willlren'* article points out, there are actually three numbers on the UIM. The most telling number is the year marker, which is on the leftmost (driver'* side) top side of the manifold. It will tell you the year the UIM was manufactured. Anything after 1998 will tell you it has been replaced.
The UIM that I have has only two dials (I will check again in the AM to make sure!) They are both right next to each other and one points to "04" and the other to "9". It sure would seem it has been replaced?!?! Any thoughts on this or the manufacturer? Thanks!! Chad
Even if it'* been replaced, it can still be an issue. I believe more strongly as each month ticks by that the Dillon intake solution is the best by far, and perhaps the only solution as close to a permanent fix as possible.

Here'* the link to the original write-up:
Sleeved Intake
PM Bob Dillon for one that'* ready to go on. I really don't know what he'* charging, but I think it'* in the $40-50 range and that beats everything else out there PLUS it seems to be a better fix than just another OEM intake.
