But what is the normal RPM at idle?
Mine is at 1000/1100 RPM when warm. It started after I got the new re-built tranny

on the left side of the UIM, just in front of the alternator, behind the coil pack. Only sensor on the top right there.

Gotcha - that is not far from the PCV valve, right?

It was the MAP? Fixed? Or...

I read this thread, thought I saw something about a TPS, reread, and can't find it....

anyways, I was going to suggest TPS maladjustment. The problem you're having (or have been having) is the exact problem that I had with my 89 LE, the original reason that brought me to this club looking for help. Turned out to be the NEW TPS I had bought was reporting the throttle being about 20% open at all times, blade movement changed the reading absolutely none. After about 3 months of HELL trying to figure out the problem, I ended up putting back in the original TPS (I had a feeling I should keep it), adjusted it correctly, and the problem never came back.

My entire point is... if you DID replace the TPS, there is a good chance that the NEW one is bad, or that its just not adjusted right. (Not sure if the L36 has an adjustable TPS like the LN3)

The MAP sensor is that little electronic thing above the PCV valve.

Edit - Here'* the link.

I am pretty sure vital49 means L36 and not L356.
