Default Hesitates when gas is floored.

I just got a super deal on a 94 bonneville ssei. This is my second bonneville, the first is a 93 se, but it has a bad motor. Hopefully I can use it for parts. Anyway the only mechanical problem this car has is that when you put the pedal to the floor it hesitates and won't get above 4000 rpm. As long as you don't push the pedal more than half way down you can get up to 90+ mph no prolem. I have replaced the plugs and wires (which were in terrible shape) and noticed much better performance, but still having the same problem. I ripped the ignition coil out of my old car and am going to throw that in, but I'm not sure that it will help.

I am wondering what the problem could be if it'* not the coil. I also already changed out the MAF sensor, so it'* not that. Anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking if its not the coil it'* probly the cadilyc converter is clogged. Does that sound likely? Also anyone know how hard they are to change out?

Sounds like your cat conveter'* getting plugged, and or you may possbily have a failing fuel pump.

Any idea if there is a way to test the fuel pump without ripping out the gas tank?

Take it to a shop and get a fuel pressure test done on it.

Or if you know how to do it, and have the gauges to hook inot the fuel rail, you could do it yourself.

Nate the FP test is not hard.....you can go to the local Advance/Autozone get a FP gague...you will need to get some Pressure Rated Hose so you can see the PF WHILE you are Driving.....the test at ilde can be done to get an idea, but i would recommend the driving test also

But test the FP and them we can move on from there

Fire up the car and smell the exhaust. Smell gassy?

Also no one asked this.... but is your check engine light on?

I will go smell the exhaust, but I am wondering what it means if it does? also the guage cluster is broken (or the unit behind it) and only the speedometer and tach work all the time... the other guages work sometimes and the dummy lights appear broken. ABS light is always on and there is nothing wrong with the brakes as far as I can tell. Traction off light is always on, I dont know if traction control is really on or off cuz of the problem its having right now, and the check engine light comes and goes about every 2-5 mins.

I smelt the exhaust and it does smell like gas... or at least I think it does... not exactly sure what exhaust usually smells like. But it is very similiar to gasoline.
