HELP HELP HELP-Did Pep Boys Damage Bonnie??
Hate to hijack a thread but I am assuming if your oil pressure was too high or low the DIC would let you know before the gauge would am I correct on this. Cause my gauge is not working so I cant tell what the oil pressure is at any time, whole dash needs to come out to replace the gauge. But I would hope the DIC would tell me the oil pressure was too high or low if this was the case. I replaced the oil sending unit and that low oil pressure DIC went away for me.
I often refer to the DIC in my first post. It is what was coming on at start-up and staying on past 3 seconds. I read if it stays on 3 seconds or longer it indicates a potential problem.

Hope so Todd. Still had a little white smoke"burnoff" coming outta the tailpipe. And what smelled and looked like a little anti-freeze burnoff under hood near the radiator. Should go away soon i would assume. Taking it back this morning anyway just to have it re-checked out because of these 2 minor things. Other than this it appears to be "fixed".
Cost Breakdown
My Out The Door Total was $502.00
Coolant System Evaluation w/ dye - 34.99
Labor (Remove & Replace Intake Gasket) -198.00
Fel-Pro Plenum Gasket - 55.89
GM Intake Manifold - 148.49
Purolator Air Filter - 6.59
Shop Fee - 35.00
Penzoil Standard Oil change & filter - No Charge
Complete Coolant Sytem Flush / Exchange - No Charge
AC Delco Spark Plugs (6) - No Charge

Keep a close eye on the engine. Watch your oil pressure. If the coolant only made it to the cylinders, you should be OK. But it if managed to get in to the cam valley, it could wash out the bearings. This happening is not very likely. But still worth watching.
Not too bad. My UIM failure cost me $800. But I was driving it even during heavy misfiring and near-stalling, just so I could end up in a familiar parking lot rather than the side of the road (total drive: 1.1 miles). (That price includes spark plugs, oil, oil filter, coolant, and a labor charge accounting for about half the total charge.) On the bright side, my cat and O2 sensors seem to have survived, 40,000 miles later. Consider your wallet lucky.
Regardless, you've fixed the problem. As long as they're using a new-style UIM (why would they use a flawed one?), that'* one problem out of the way.
