Default Wrong Bulb?

I keep getting this brake lamp message and it indicates to my brake light in my rear window. The bulb itself works. Could it be that it is the wrong bulb? I was told that someone put in the wrong bulb that still worked but that message came up. Any Suggestion?

I suppose it'* theoretically possible that if the bulb had the wrong resistance, it could set off the bad bulb indicator. But I'm not sure how a bulb that had a low enough resistance that the computer would think it was blown would fit in the socket. Maybe Will or Fuddy can answer that one better.

It'* cheap and easy enough, though, to throw the right bulb in there and test that theory, though.

Do your licence plate bulbs work? I ask because I didn't think the dash could indicate just the third brake light.

I had the same thing happen about 2 weeks ago. Had the wrong bulb in and would get the light not working indicator intermittlenty even though the light was actually lighting up. Put the correct number bulb in and have not had the problem since.

The license plate lights will indicate a bad taillamp, not brake light. Lamp monitor will indicate a 3rd brake light, as well. The 'wrong bulb' happened to me, too. Make sure it'* an 1156 (I think), and the socket is clean.

If the bulb draws a different amount of current than the one that'* supposed to be in there, you will get the message.
