Sounds like a bad trans. We have a gearhead that has a ton of transmission knowledge. He should chime in soon. I believe that'* a 4t60 trans, but I could be wrong.

Dan may be on the money, but I'm also thinking something else, like maybe you have a different year trans installed. If it is a 4T60E, and if you can, get me the model # off the tag and I can tell you if you have the correct trans. This will really tell us if you have the correct trans.

BTW, I'm not the highly recommended, sought after trans guy. We are waiting for the trans GOD to make his entrance. lol

Does the trans automatically upshift from 2-3 or will it only upshift 2-3 manually? If it does it automatically, you may have a bad shift solinoid. If it only upshifts manually, check to make sure that you have battery voltage @ the pink (or red) wire @ the transmission case connector. It should be pin "E". You do have a 4T60E. If you can a scan tool, scan the computer for codes, and let us know what has been set.

If you have no power at the case connector, check your fuses.

Whereabouts are the fuses? Even I'm curious.

There could be 2 fuse boxes. One on the drivers side and maybe on on the passenger side. I had a few 93-94 Olds 88'* with similar issues and found a blown fuse in the fuse box under the glove box. Sometimes the label on the fuse box does not even mention that the fuse has anything to do with the trans, so you just have to test every fuse with a test light with the ignition on.

hello yes it shifts between 2nd and 3rd automaticly.it just seems to want to start out in 2nd and doesnt want to shift into overdrive, the tranny i put in the car is the same year as the one i took out.it is the 4T60E tranamission,i checked for power to the plug that goes to the TCC plug and it seems to have power i even took the shift solinoid out of the other trans to see if the TCC plug wire on the car had power and the solinoids clicked like they wanted to work,I dont have a scan tool to get the codes off the comp, but with this tanny im getting a check engine light where i didnt get it with the other tranny. thanks for all the help im going to check for a blown fuse today,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,mark

You will really need to get the code scanned, that will help a lot in finding the problem.
