Is there a way to keep from grinding the engine? Do you know what I mean. I have let it sit awhile because school has been so busy. I am afraid that starting it will be real hard on it. Any suggestions.

How long is "hasnt' been started in a while"?

There'* not a whole lot you can do. Check all the fluids before starting it. When our summer cars sit over the winter, I like to "bump" the key just so that it cranks, but won't start. I do that two or three times and then let it start.

If it'* been sitting for a long time (4-6 months - especially outside), I change the oil immediately after it'* warmed up. That will allow the condensation that may have mixed in with the oil to drain out.
