1999 Bonneville 170 k
This has happened twice in the last week. After being shut off for several hours the motor starts and kills. I'm sure it'* flooding because of the gray smoke and the smell of gas. The only way I can keep it running is by holding the accelerator to the floor. I was wondering if before I take it into the shop and get the codes run if I should try a used MAF? Any help will be appreciated.

The coolant level in the radiator and the reservoir are full

Check for fuel in the vacuum line going to the fuel pressure regulator.

I checked the vacuum hose on the regulator and it'* dry.

When was the last time it had a tune up?

If you have a multimeter you can check the coil resistance.

Plugs and wires have 2200 miles on them

Rather than a new MAF, I'd attempt to clean the one you have(rubbing alcohol, a q-tipp, and a steady hand. T-25 torx safety bit). How has your gas mileage been(if you keep track). Has it dropped? No change? Can you get the car to run and idle with just a small amount of throttle, or does it have to be WOT? That'* all I have right now.

What brand of plugs did you put in?

My fuel mileage has been 28-29 Hiway and 18-20 in town. This problem just started about a week ago and has only happened twice, but the gas gage seems to be dropping faster than usuall. When the car starts it will not run for more than a few seconds (at approx 250 rpm) with no or part throttle, I have to put it to the floor and it will gradually come out of it after 5-6 seconds and then it will run fine until it happens again. I put in original equipment AC plugs and wires, also my check engine light is not on. Thanks.
