OK. since many here recommend changing the 02 sensor at recommended intervals, I've decided to do so, and my 02 sensor got here from gmpartsdirect today. This is the first swap-out, at 131K.

After a little trouble getting the old sensor out (penetrating oil, 1/2 hour, worked fine then) I lubed the new one with anti-seize compound and installed it.

Then off to the gas station to fill up. I had almost 200 miles on the tank and got a little over 22 MPG, which is about the same my car has done since the day it was new.

I'll report back and see how it affects mileage with the new fill-up prolly later this week.

Old sensor looked fine, by the way, a small deposit of whitish powder on it.

Time will tell if i blew $80 soon, I guess.

Give it alittle time I'm sure that @ 131k it was tired and needed to be done. I did mine at 147k for the first time and the difference was huge.

I did notice that the car seems to idle a little better and is a bit smoother at low RPMs.

$80?????????? You spent $80 on a O2 sensor????????????? CRAZY!!!!

Preventive mataince... Do you wait to change plugs until they will not fire anymore?

yeah no kidding, but $80??? i only spend like $25 on my O2

Thats a 1wire O2 I belive. Ours is a 4wire hookup (just 1 plug though )

I didn't notice my idle smooth out much but I did see my mileage go up by 6-7mpg on the highway alone. Here is a link to my thread when I did mine

True I think yours is a one wire (so is mine). $80 does seem high though, I mean I could get a denso for $40-$50 but what do you expect it was from GM Parts Direct. If he would of got it from the dealer he would of paid prob. $120+

There'* certain parts on these cars we've learned to not skimp on. O2 is one of them. Gotta get a real AC Delco one, or none at all.

Unfortunately for some of us, the only way to get it is mail order. Nobody stocks them locally. I don't remember the exact amount, but mine was up there. Could have spent 30-40 bucks locally for a Bosch, and then spent it again in 6 montyhs when it died. Or, spend 70-80 bucks at GMPD, and know I'm set for the next 50-100 thousand miles.... (or at least a year)

Let us know how the test goes. I could have tested mine when I did it in the fall, but then it got cold, and I started using the "Wussy Button" (aka Remote starter)

Buy the GMPD way if possible.

I was in a rush and GMPD cost to my door would have been $80 and my local AC Delco warehouse was $114.
