difference between console and granny shifter.

can it be interchanged i.e. put a functional center console shifter as a replacement for a granny shifter???

i want a console shifter too! it is definetly possible, but the amount of work it would take is unimagineable, first you have to get the 2 bucket seats and replace your 60/40 split bench, then you have to reroute all of the linkages and whatnot, and all of the wiring and everything hooked up to the shifter. it would probably be easier to rip a whole trans out of a junk car with all of the nessasary hardware.

although i havent done this, i could only imagine how cool it would be, but alot of work

as for the linkages and such...they go in the car the same you would need a different steering cloumn, and the cable and the shifter for the floor....

The column may need to be swapped to ease the transistion and add the cable lock for the wheel. However..the only other two problem areas I see are wondering if the studs are there for bolting down to ....which I assume they are. And the fact that your dash won't meet up with the console like the normal console dash would.

It is when you've pulled a few out before. That way you know you don't need to swap the transmission to do it

I've only done it 2-3 times, but it'* pretty easy.

I have a 97 SE that is my every day runner....... I also have a 97 SSEi that my wife wrecked 2 years ago sitting in a friends junk yard. I'd love to convert my SSE to leather buckets, center console shifter, stereo controls on the steering wheel, cd player, electronic climate control and head'* up display(dont think I could do the sunroof conversion.... ...)

So it sounds that most, if not all of this, would be possible?

it could be all be done....one first question....are you comfortble with Wiring and you WILL need the Factory Service manuals


I plan on doing the HUD, ECC and the ELC swap in about 3-4 weeks....
