Default Gas tank access door

Sorry, I don't know the exact terminology. When I try to get the gas tank filled the little door won't open sometimes. Then I open the trunk and use the slider to open the door. Recently nothing worked to open the door so I left. I drove a block and then returned to the gas station and was able to open the door via the trunk and get gas. Do you have ideas for me about what to do. It'* pretty scary now to wonder if I will be able to get gas. 103,000 + miles 1999 similar to JAKSGTP'* car
Thanks.

If you press unlock twice the gas tank lock soleniod should unlock the door. If you don't get the unlock from it, then I'd probably pull the few screws holding the plastic insert into the fuel tank door area and remove the lock.
