Well I just got off the phone with Autozone in Niagra Fall US and they told me that they didn't think they could get the gas tank in the store for Saturday, it would be more likely Monday. That'* no good for me since I'll only be in NF Saturday so I didn't order it. Bad to the drawing board.

Well I just got the car back from the shop and took a better look at the gas tank. It'* leaking pretty bad from the front top of the gas tank and the bottom front is also all wet with gas. I check around the fuel filter and visable lines and they were dry. This looks like a bigger leak than I thought.

Frank, you are considering that you likely need to replace the fuel sender unit also, right?

In many cases, that is the actual leak path and problem and not the tank. I'm not saying that it is your problem. Just a precaution for you.

The gas reads correctly and the fuel pump works, I wasn't thinking of replacing either one. I don't know any history on this car that I just purchased so I though since the tank appears to be quite rusty I was only going to replace what was on my original list at the beginning of this thread.

People I'm trying not to whine, about a nickel here and a dime there but I had a buget to get 3 car'* on the road of around $10,000.00 and I've reached that amount. I'm trying to limit any future expenditures, but I won't take any short cuts, since my moto still remains May my cars live forever!

lash, believe me when I say that I really do appreciate your suggestions as well as everyone else'*. How about I drop the tank early next week and see exactly where the gas leak is coming from. Once the tank has been removed, how can I tell if it'* the sending unit?

Keep those suggestion'* coming please, after all........that'* what this forum is all about.

Well, like you said, once you drop the tank, things will become clear real quick. If your gas guage is reading fine, you may not have an issue with the sender.

Many times the failure mode IS due to the sender, but usually that manifests at the guage. Usually a leak in the sender is at the steel lines attached to it. The location is a perfect spot for salt, and therefore rust, to hang out. If those lines are bad you will easily spot it.

The sending unit and the pump are seperate items.

Thanks lash, I think my first problem will be trying to empty out 7/8 of a tank of gas.

If he does decide he needs tor replace the pump does he need to use OEM or aftermarket okay? My neighbor said to only use GM when replacing the older Monte Carlo tank on a neighbor'* car...
