I've been having a problem with the gas guage in my car. If I were to beleive it I would never have to buy gas. Reads full all the time. I saw in the technifo where some have had the opposite problem. Reading empty when full. Is this the same type of problem or do I have a bad sending unit? On the rare occasion it will drop to the right level and then slowly move back up to full. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I have the exact opposite issue with my 99. After you fill it up, it reads empty. Once the level goes down some it'll resume back to an accurate reading. I have been told that it'* the sending unit. Read on:

It'* a defective fuel sending unit. I had to have mine replaced last month. The dealer said it was very common. No problems now with the guage.

The bad thing is that the sending unit is inside the tank. Makes for a costly repair.

I'm not sure about your model Bonne, but mine was easy because there is an access port in the trunk floor, so I didn't have to drop the tank. It only took a few minutes to change.

There is not an access panel from inside the car on the 92-99 models. You have to drop the tank. ...I've learned just to deal with it!

Yes I have learned to set the tripmeter when I fill up and get gas every 350 miles. With the price of gas nowadays maybe I will just live with it too. Thanks for answering me.

yes, my 92 SSE has the shows empty when full problem, then goes back to normal after 30 miles.

My 97 SSEi has the always full problem.

Seems like a common GM thing.
