hi i have a 96 bonneville se my fuel gauge is not moving from empty when i fill the car up how can i fix it? thank you

Sounds like your fuel sender may be bad. To change that you need to drop the fuel tank and remove the fuel pump. I seem to remember Billboost saying something about doing a write up on it.

hi i have a 96 bonneville.... can a bad fuel sending unit stop sending fuel to the engine or does it only control the fuel gauge reading? im asking cause i think my fuel sending unit is bad cause my fuel gauge is not working and im not sure if the car will shut off on me and if i need to put a new one in asap. or if i can wait til i get a little cash to put on in... thank you

They are both part of the same unit, but not the same thing on that unit. So no, the fuel pump wont quit because the sender stops.

They do share the same connector under the rear passenger side of the car...up behind the fuel tank.

I'd test the sender at that connector first before dropping the tank. Although I do agree with Dan ..it'* most likely the sender.
