how does the lock on the fuel door work. Is it when you unlock your doors it should unlock and when you lock doors it should lock. Or is it by putting the car in park and gear? This car has sat for 3 years and im trying to get it back in shape.

i'm not too familiar with your year but if it is like the 2000+ if you unlock the doors it will unlock do you have a fuel door release in you car other than the safety in the trunk? if not the it works through your door locks remove the carpet on that side of your trunk and check the plug, lock, and wires to it for damage or just not plugged in.
i'll get someone more familliar with your year to help you out cause as i said i'm not to familair with it

Mine was doing the same thing and I found that it was just slightly hitting the carpet in the trunk and stopping it from unlocking all the way. May seem too simple but worth a look nonetheless.
By the way....it is supposed to unlock in conjunction with the drivers door power lock whether key fob or interior button. It will then lock whenever you power lock the car as well.

fuel door-gas-door.jpg

hopefully this helps, sounds like the latch may need cleaning or the connection to it could be corroded. or, you just need to click the unlock button!
