Default Fog lights Question

Okay all the way until lastnite i thought my foglights did not work.....
Well i was sitting in my driveway with the parking lights on and reached up and flipped the switch on the overhead console and the front end got brighter so i got out and took a look and they were both on!! so i turned on the headlamps and then the fogs shut off :?
how do i keep them on?

were your headlights on high beams? the fogs will go off with the use of highs.
